Westward Ho!

Many companies have sprung up offering assistance to people who wish to go abroad. After 9/11, the number of students going to the US had temporarily dipped, but has picked up again. Universities from the US, Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, France and Germany are sending their representatives to India to showcase their universities, and they are offering financial assistance. Earlier students used to mainly go to the US and also UK, but now a large number of students go to other countries as well. Interestingly hundreds of students are now going to China for medical education (in English). On the other hand, management graduates of IIMs (Indian Instiute of Management) make headlines every year for being hired by foreign companies for higher and higher compensation, the latest being for around $250,000! Another indication of global opportunities is that Americans and Europeans now come to India to get experience in IT and MNCs (multinational companies).

Did you notice that the glass facade has windows in it that can be propped open? Many new buildings are coming up with reflective glass facades. The overhead cables from telephone, power, cable and Internet companies are an eyesore throughout the city.

I understand your feeling about all the cables. But somehow, we come to almost not-see them, on a day to day basis. Noticing them more, when we take a photo.

An ideal situation would be for them all to be buried underground.

I think we really start to notice the cables when they start to interfere with our pictures :) I think that is the same everywhere.

I see many Indian students in the Boston area, but that is not too unusual with all the universities here. English education in China?

Have a good week.

Trends are perplexing. For instance, cant see why our country can't train enough doctors, teachers, nurses.

In Kuwait we aren't permitted to pass cables from one building to the next. So Kuwait is practically cable free!

Yes, foreign students are returning to US universities: "Graduate schools in 2006 reported admitting 14 percent more foreign students than in 2005. In 2005, the admission rate increased only 3 percent over the previous year. Increases in admissions jumped significantly as well for students from India (26%) and China (24%) [...] The largest number of foreign students in the U.S. come from India; about 76,500 Indian students were enrolled at American colleges or universities in the 2005-2006 academic year. China comes in second place with some 62,600 students." The source.
